Harplogroup

Detroit, MI, US - While I was at the School of Visual Arts, I did a short video on James Murphy - who is now part of the famous group LCD Soundsystem. I don't think I have the short video anymore or maybe the footage of it, because it is stored somewhere in the basement. I filmed him rehearsing with his band - The Jinx Clam Bake Explosion.

They (as well as James) find my filming of them distracting (like the 'Let It Be' documentary) so I did not continue the project and gradually, our friendship drifted apart as he toured with a new group - PONY. In 2007, LCD Soundsystem came to play at Detroit, and after the show I went backstage to say 'Hi' (cuz we were at one time friends.. at least I thought we were).

James said to me, "Do you want something from me?" - and I was taken aback and said, "Uhh.. no". Then he said, "Well, I'm going to my tour bus". Odd that he would say such things for he's been particularly known for his song; where he pleads, "Where are my friends tonight? Ohhh where are my friends tonight? Ohh pleassse my friends! All of them! All my friends! Tonight!" 

Well, in his defense he would probably say he was exhausted after the concert performance and with the tour as well. However, through distant years, foregoing conventional paths, Harplogroup has arrived to its present sound.
